 Paint.NET is free image editing and photo manipulation software designed to be used on computers that run Windows. It supports layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. It started development as an undergraduate college senior design project mentored by Microsoft, and is currently being maintained by some of the alumni that originally worked on it. Originally intended as a free replacement for the MS Paint software that comes with Windows, it has grown into a powerful yet simple tool for photo and image editing. The programming language used to create Paint.NET is C#, with a small amount of C++ for installation and shell-integration related functionality.
Paint.NET can be used to enhance and clean up your photographs. Using the Clone Stamp tool, the power lines that criss-crossed in front of the Space Needle were carefully removed. Other operations were performed that had the effect of smoothing out the image without blurring it, adding some “bloom” (glow), and increasing the contrast.

Simple, intuitive user interface
Every feature and user interface element was designed to be immediately intuitive and quickly learnable without assistance. It is also designed to be immediately familiar to users of the original MS Paint software that comes with Windows.
Layers
Usually only found on expensive or complicated professional software, layers form the basis for a rich image composition experience. You may think of them as a stack of transparency slides that, when viewed together at the same time, form one image.
Powerful Tools
Paint.NET includes simple tools for drawing shapes, including an easy-to-use curve tool for drawing splines or Bezier curves. The Gradient tool, new for 3.0, has been cited as a huge improvement over similar tools provided by other software. The facilities for creating and working with selections is powerful, yet still simple enough to be picked up quickly. Other powerful tools include the Magic Wand for selecting regions of similar color, and the Clone Stamp for copying or erasing portions of an image. There is also a simple text editor, a tool for zooming, and a Recolor tool.
Unlimited History
Everybody makes mistakes, and everybody changes their mind. To accommodate this, every action you perform on an image is recorded in the History window and may be undone. Once you’ve undone an action, you can also redo it. The length of the history is only limited by available disk space.
Special Effects
Many special effects are included for perfecting your images. Everything from blurring, sharpening, red-eye removal, distortion, noise, and embossing are included. Also included is our unique 3D Rotate/Zoom effect that makes it very easy to add perspective and tilting.
Adjustments are also included which help you tweak an image’s brightness, contrast, hue, saturation, curves, and levels. You can also convert an image to black and white, or sepia-toned.
Open Source and Free
Paint.NET is provided free-of-charge, and the source code (all 133,000 lines of it) is also available for free under generous licensing terms. The bulk of Paint.NET is written in C#, with only a small amount of code related to setup and shell-integration written in C++.

With the click of a mouse, you’re connected to friends, family, and colleagues anywhere on earth. It’s just that simple. You talk clearly. For as long as you want. For free. And with inexpensive add-ons like CallIn and CallOut, you can talk to any telephone–mobile or landline–on the planet. Any phone? Yes. Download Gizmo Project, and suddenly it all clicks–some calls are better online.
Gizmo Project is the name of a peer-to-peer VoIP network and of a proprietary freeware soft phone for that network. Gizmo Project was founded by Michael Robertson. Unlike its competitor network Skype, the Gizmo Project network uses open standards for call management, the Session Initiation Protocol and Jabber. But it uses several proprietary codecs, and like Skype, the Gizmo Project client is proprietary/closed source software. The Gizmo Project is run by the company SIPphone.
Since the Gizmo Project is based on the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), it can interoperate with other SIP-based networks directly, although some data will always be routed via central SIPphone-servers, making it less than ideal in these settings from a privacy and security perspective. This avoids the phone system and is thus free of charge. Gizmo also will use encryption (SRTP) for Gizmo to Gizmo calls and works well with Phil Zimmermann’s new Zfone secure add on.
The Gizmo Project software also has features that Skype lacks (or offers at an additional fee), such as interoperability with other systems/services via the SIP standard, built-in recording, and free voicemail. Gizmo also allows paid members of LiveJournal to make ‘voiceposts’ if they are unable to use the voicepost telephone lines provided by the website.
Unlike many of its competitors, Gizmo supports outbound caller ID in the United States, where people commonly reject incoming calls from unknown numbers. Skype and most other VoIP services seem to lack this feature.
Gizmo 4.0 offers video calling. Gizmo5 offers gizmo on a smartphone platform.

Feature Details:
1. Sound effects – Add Sound Effects to your calls. Open the Dialpad at the bottom of Gizmo Project window and press the emoticon button during a call. You can choose other sounds (or upload your own) from the options menu.
2. Check call quality – Click for the Call Quality Assitant to see bandwidth quality.
3. Pick online status. Green: Available, Red: Away/Do not disturb, Orange: Idle, Blue: On the phone, Grey: Invisible/Offline
4. Online status. Gives the current status of all your contacts.
5. Click Map It to view map of call locations. Get a detailed map of the location of each call.

* Free Mobile phone and Landline Conference Calling. The Gizmo Project network provides a free conference calling system. Using FreeConferenceCallTM you can conduct a conference call between mobile phones, landlines, and Gizmo Project users.
* Asterisk PBX Support. Starting with Gizmo Project 2.0 for Mac and Windows you can now log into your office PBX (like the popular Asterisk PBX software) and the Gizmo Project network at the same time. This lets you be universally reachable and seamlessly receive calls from your office while anywhere in the world!
* SIP Number. Your Gizmo Project account has two important identifiers. The first is your Gizmo name. The second is the SIP number, which is automatically assigned to your account. With this number, VoIP networks can reach your Gizmo account free.
