The movie Manichitrathazha when loosely translated means(The sacred belongings of a closed mind)had released in the mid 90’s if my memory is good. It could be well described as the ‘Mughal-e Azam’ of Malayalam movie industry. Purely because of its musical grandeur and not the glorious sets or song picturizations. Although the songs have been very beautifully picturized taking into the period in which the movie had released.

Secondly my comparisons to Mughal e Azam has another relevence as it took nearly 2 to 3 production units to makethe movie a grand success that it eventually became forthe audience.Apart from all these small reasons, i consider this movie a sort of a milestone because of its music.

I simply lovethe musicof this movie and I particularly would like you to take note of its Background score. This movie , made originally in malayalqam, has been recently re made in Tamil and in Hindi by the names of ‘Chandramukhi’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyya’.

I just cannot like Chandramukhi because it was a total injustice done to the original script and the actors but I did like Bhool Bhulaiyya as the origional script was followed till the last full stop. At least , Mr Priyadarshan made it sure that he maintained the sanctity of the script.

I still get driven to some unknown mystical land everytime I hear this song.The song is timeless and just plain and simply put..Superb!!The background score has to be equally credited as it has very effectively been used to lift the magnitude of each and every scene. I particularly love the scene where the protagonist psychologist playedby Mohanlal, gets up late in the night after hearing a lady sing, starts to search the person going around the place.

The sound of the song is very intelligentlymade feeble to make it look as though it is coming from some where far off. Then when he nears the destination it becomes loud and clear. Great technique and some intelligent direction too.In short ,this movie and its music, still hauntsmy heart and soul whenever I hear it even after so many years.
